The maths curriculum covers arithmetic, algebra and geometry, plus measures and data handling. Wherever possible we strive to make the study of maths real and concrete — getting outside to measure the area of the astroturf, logging rainfall in the Orchard, surveying the birds in the trees and on the lawns.

In the early years we impart core skills and give children strategies to use as their exploration of maths deepens. We also work to relate maths to other subjects and everyday life: scale and data mapping in geography, formulae and graphs in science, patterns and geometry in art. Every year a Maths Day gives the entire school day over to the full richness of this ‘beautiful language.’

From Year 6 the syllabus is aimed towards Common Entrance, with an extended curriculum for our scholarship candidates. Individual learning support is available for those who find maths challenging.
